in the process of re-reading my sociology reading pack, i discovered[i probably didnt pay much attention to anything the first time around] so many interesting details. oh well, i decided to post some of these stuff here, perhaps to make me remember the examples for the exams, and also, just for a good laugh. I actually chuckled reading this chapter by Michael S.Kimmel entitled "
Ordained by Nature". for those not taking sociology, i encourage you people to take it. very interesting indeed and no term papers! haha...altho the 80 MCQ exam format doesnt look too "friendly" to me, i think its an interesting mod to take, 10 times more interesting than my Euro exposure module...and to think i'm gg to major in Euro...btw, the article describes how scores of biological researchers try to explain differences in sexual orientation in terms of Man's biological make-up...here are some excerpts:
Excerpt 1: On appointing gay men in firms...
"Feminist writer Gloria Steinem says: During those days immediately preceding her menstrual period [ the PMS days], a woman's estrogen level drops to its lowest point in the monthly cycle. Thus, just before menstruation, at least hormonally, women more closely resemble mean than at any other point in their cycle! Perhaps, then, the only sensible purely solution would be to have every corporation, government office, and--especially--military operation run by gay men, whose levels of testosterone would presumable by low enough to offset the hormone's propulsion toward aggression, while they would also be immune to the 'raging hormonal influences' of PMS."
Excerpt 2: On the treatment of homosexuality...
research suggests that male homosexuality was the result of insufficient prenatal masculine hormones, or inadequate masculinity.
"Treatment of homosexuality--indeed, perhaps its cure--might be effected simply by injecting higher doses of testosterone into these men, whose recharged virility would transform them into heterosexuals with higher sex drives. When such as experiment was attempted, researchers found that the men's sex drives did indeed increase as a result of the testosterone injections. However, the object of their lusts did not change. The simply desired more sex with men!"
i leave it to u people to give ur views on the above. for me, it was definitely a funny article....shows the extent to which people try to prove homosexuality as a bio thing...lol...
